FC Twente has set its sights on the arrival of Manfred Ugalde, know TC Tubantia report on Friday. The nineteen-year-old Costa Rican striker is owned by Manchester City and last season played in the Belgian second class on behalf of Lommel SK. Ugalde must serve as successor to Danilo in Enschede. The Brazilian forward was hired from Ajax last season and will return to Amsterdam this summer. Twente wants to rent Ugalde.

Ugalde, who can also play as an attacking midfielder, was acquired by the Manchester City Football Group (CFG) last summer, where he signed a five-year contract. Manchester City then decided to loan the Costa Rican to Lommel, where he managed to find the net 11 times in 22 games last season. Lommel came into the hands of the CFG in May 2020. Belgian clubs are very popular with foreign investors due to good arrangements for players outside the European Union.

Twente is thin in the attackers. Center striker Danilo returns to Amsterdam after a rental period of one year and Luciano Narsingh has also said goodbye. The winger hired from Feyenoord can prove himself in De Kuip under Arne Slot. The other remaining basic player in the vanguard, Queensy Menig, has the chance at FC Utrecht to take a step higher in the Eredivisie. Twente recently activated the option in the expiring contract of the 25-year-old attacker, which means that he is still in Enschede until mid-2022. However, many refused to negotiate a new contract, making a departure an obvious choice.

In the meantime, hard work is being done behind the scenes to put together the selection for next season. The Enschede club previously took over goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall transfer-free from PSV and is still negotiating with FC Utrecht about Václav Cerny. The 23-year-old wing striker played on a rental basis at Twente last season, which would like to take him over permanently. On Thursday, the Enschede club announced that Virgil Misidjan will be taken over from PEC Zwolle. The winger signs a two-year contract with Twente. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is also in the picture, but technical director Jan Streuer has not yet had a conversation with him. Moreover, it remains to be seen whether the 38-year-old attacker will continue to play football.
