FC Twente wants to know from Ajax this week where it stands with regard to Jurgen Ekkelenkamp. The midfielder has been coveted by the club from Enschede for some time, but so far it has not been a breakthrough. Technical director Jan Streuer of FC Twente is not prepared to wait very long and wants clarity from Ajax this week, he tells TC Tubantia.

Ekkelenkamp came into action in the second half against the amateurs of Quick’20 (1-1) on Tuesday evening, but whether he will wear the shirt of the team from Amsterdam next season is still very much the question. Director of football affairs Marc Overmars is trying to extend his contract until mid-2022, while clubs from Germany, Belgium and Italy are trying to take over the youth international. Twente is one of the clubs in the Eredivisie that is lurking for a rental construction and has already contacted Ajax several times.

“We want to know where we stand this week, otherwise we have to switch,” Streuer told the above-mentioned newspaper. “We have more players on our list, but we don’t want to wait until the end of the preparation.” If Ekkelenkamp decides not to extend his contract with Ajax that will run until 2022, Vitesse and sc Heerenveen hope to have a chance at the services of the midfielder in addition to Twente. Ekkelenkamp played fifteen times in the Eredivisie last season, four times in the Champions League and four times in the TOTO KNVB Cup.

Streuer also indicated that he was looking for a replacement for Jody Lukoki. The brand new addition was injured during training on Monday and has suffered a cruciate ligament injury. “It is true that he was not yet in optimal condition, but if that would have been a matter of months, we would of course not have attracted him”, Streuer does not blame himself. “You often see that a player who has trained for himself for a while is behind. In his case, that was only a matter of time. This injury is also completely separate from that.”
