FC Groningen has agreed to a settlement proposal from the professional football prosecutor for the disturbances caused in the Euroborg. A fine of 12,500 euros will be imposed for the disturbances caused by their own supporters during Eredivisie matches. The prosecutor has found that during matches against sc Heerenveen (1-1) and Vitesse (0-1) in the Euroborg ‘cups with liquid’ (mainly beer) and objects were thrown on the field. In addition, against Vitesse, five supporters entered the field with only underwear.

The fine imposed is divided into two parts: an amount of 6,250 euros unconditional and 6,250 euros conditionally with a probationary period of two years. FC Groningen has announced that it will recover the unconditional sanction from the identified perpetrators. The Eredivisie match between FC Groningen and Vitesse was discontinued on September 22 at the end of half-time. Just before the second half was about to start, goalkeeper Markus Schubert was hit by an object from the audience during the warm-up. Vitesse’s closing post went straight to the ground and grabbed his head, after which he had to be cared for.

Both teams went back into the locker room, and in the end it took about seventeen minutes for the game to resume. Schubert did not need to be substituted. During the temporary strike, security in the stadium also had to come into action after some scantily clad supporters took the field. A day after the Schubert incident, the KNVB, Eredivisie CV and Keuken Kampioen Division issued a statement about the disturbances in the Dutch football stadiums. The three organizations called on football fans to support their club in a positive way.
