Thijs Oosting will play for FC Groningen in the coming years, according to the Pride of the North announced via the official channels. The promoted team is reportedly transferring a limited transfer fee of 1 million euros to Willem II, which will also be active in the Eredivisie next season as champion of the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. Oosting will play with shirt number 25.

The 24-year-old Oosting has signed for three seasons, plus an option year. The versatile left-footer, son of FC Twente coach Joseph Oosting, is looking forward to his employment in Groningen. “I am very happy with this step to FC Groningen. The nickname is not for nothing the Pride of the North and I come from quite a bit around here so it is very nice to be able to play for this club.”

“I was immediately enthusiastic when the interest started. The conversations with the trainer, among others, gave me a good feeling. FC Groningen has a playing style that suits me well, so I have the feeling that it is a good match,” Oosting said on the Groningen club website.

The Drenthe youth international will join the selection of trainer Dick Lukkien with immediate effect. Earlier, the 52-year-old trainer welcomed goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen and midfielder Brynjolfur Willumsson. On the other hand, defender Nick Bakker will leave. Groningen will open the Eredivisie season on Friday evening, 9 August, with a home match against NAC Breda.

Willem II has work to do after Oosting's departure. The Tilburgers only managed to sign goalkeeper Thomas Didillon (Cercle Brugge), while besides Oosting, Freek Heerkens (retired), Matthias Verreth (free transfer to Brescia), Jesse Bosch (without a club), Michael de Leeuw (free transfer to SC Cambuur) and Max Svensson (without a club) have also left.

Loan player Jeredy Hilterman has returned to Almere City, but he left that club behind due to the end of his contract. Football International reported on Monday that the 26-year-old striker is leaving for Germany.

Hilterman, who scored sixteen times for Willem II last season, will be joining Arminia Bielefeld in Germany's third tier. He was presented on Tuesday morning.
