Francesco Farioli will start his first official match as Ajax coach on Thursday evening. The coach will explain why Remko Pasveer is in goal before the Europa League preliminary round match against FK Vojvodina. His words should give the passed-over Diant Ramaj some hope.

Ramaj had a good debut season at Ajax, but now has to give up his place under the bar to the forty-year-old Pasveer. “I have to try to put all the pieces of the puzzle together and to ensure the best possible chemistry,” Farioli begins to Ziggo Sport to his explanation.

“I feel Remko has the personality and leadership that we need,” the Ajax coach said. “He did very well in the friendly matches.”

Ramaj reportedly wants to leave immediately, but for Farioli nothing is set in stone. “It is not a permanent decision, but it is the best decision at the moment, for today's game. Let's see the rest next week.”

Farioli spoke about it with Ramaj. “I like to communicate directly and openly. I explained my arguments. He is very professional. He accepts it. No player is happy not to play, but his reaction in training is fantastic. That is what we need, not only from the goalkeepers, but from all the players.”

Steven Berghuis has not been found fit enough for a starting spot. “With Berghuis, we started a process in which we hoped he could play today, but we have the feeling that he is not quite ready yet. We have spoken about it several times. He is an important player. We want to get him on the field as soon as possible, but not to rush anything.”

Ajax line-up: feather key; Rensch, Sutalo, Baas, Hato; Fitz-Jim, Henderson, Taylor; Rasmussen, Akpom, Forbs.

FK Vojvodina line-up: Carevic; Butean, Sichenje, Crnomarkovic, Lucas Barros; Ivanovic, Petrovic, Savicevic; Yusuf, Poletanovic, Zady Sery.
