Francesco Farioli believes 'curiosity' is one of the most important qualities for a footballer. He said this in conversation with Ajax's official channels. The Amsterdam team confirmed on Thursday evening that the Italian has signed a three-year contract in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

When asked which type of players best suits the playing style of Farioli, who came over from OGC Nice, he answers: “It is a bit of an underestimated quality, but players who are curious. Players who want to learn, who want to receive as well as share ideas.”

“The only way to get better is to be open and listen. Be open to understanding your feelings and what is happening. And another important part is about team spirit. The ability to subordinate individual interests to team interests.”

Farioli's first task will be to analyze the selection, he indicates. “I'm looking forward to working with them, working closely with them. And to see their reaction to my working method, because I go into it with an open mind, to get to know my players. Only then will we make decisions.”

“I want to know the mood of my players: who is happy to be here? And to help the team? Because a lot needs to be done. Everyone must be on the same page. The team comes first. Anyone who stays must have the will to bring Ajax back to where it should be.”

The trainer's favorite formation is 4-3-3. “But it's not just about the numbers and shapes, but more about the principles and behavior we want to see on the field,” he says.

“The goal is to dominate the game and take charge of the game, and take our destiny into our own hands. There are two ways to do that: one is to have the ball, two is to win the ball.”

“We need players who have the will to leave their mark on the game and who take responsibility and take control of the game. And approach the game in a positive way, keeping in mind their tasks on the field and how they profile themselves on the field,” concludes the new coach.
