Matthijs de Ligt has a surrender clause in his contract that runs until mid-2024, Fabrizio Romano reveals in a video on his YouTube channel. The transfer market expert states that the 22-year-old center defender can be picked up from Juventus in the summer of 2022 for an amount of 150 million euros. Mino Raiola, De Ligt’s agent, concluded a departure from Juventus last week in conversation with Tuttosport not out already.

“Alessio Romagnoli can sign with Juventus because he is free at the end of the season. Playing together with De Ligt is an option. But it is not certain that De Ligt will stay at Juventus. He is one of the best center backs in the world. There is a possibility that he will leave Juventus at the end of the season. Sometimes the transfer market just works that way,” Raiola said. Romano now explains why De Ligt’s agent – who was taken over from Ajax for 85 million euros in the summer of 2019 – made these statements.

Romano emphasizes that De Ligt has a ‘very high’ salary at Juventus, as his contract still dates from the time before the corona pandemic. Juventus made ‘only’ ninety million euros loss in 2019/20, but due to the outbreak of the corona virus, the losses rose to more than double in the previous financial year. The current loss will be covered by the reserves that the current number sixteen of the Serie A has built up in recent years.

However, the main reason De Ligt can leave Juventus is that his contract contains a surrender clause. If an amount of 150 million euros is put on the table next summer, the the Dutch international can be soaked at la Vecchia Signora. Romano emphasizes that the surrender clause is so high that it will be difficult for De Ligt to leave Juventus. In addition, in the words of the transfer market expert, De Ligt is valued by trainer Massimiliano Allegri and the Juventus board is convinced that he can be one of the best center backs in Europe for many years in the service of Juventus.

“We map out a path for everyone, both for players and coaches. De Ligt is a young player with a lot of quality, but he still has to improve. He will remain with Juventus for years to come, regardless of how many games he plays,” Allegri said in a reaction to Raiola’s statements ahead of the AC Milan game. “When he arrived here, someone wrote: ‘He is a future Ballon d’Or winner’. Most of all, rest is needed. The Juventus shirt weighs heavily on the shoulders of players. Chiellini probably wasn’t as good as De Ligt is at his age, but became a great player later in life. It takes time.”

By the way, in the duel with AC Milan (1-1) in the heart of his defense, Allegri preferred Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci, leaving De Ligt on the reserve bench for ninety minutes. “Let’s say I need a left-footed player on his side. It’s not about experience, because De Ligt has already played many games,” Allegri said DAZN. “De Ligt has started in three of our four games this season in the starting line-up. This is the fifth game and we have to rotate with three games a week.”
