Manchester United have not yet taken a position on Donny van de Beek’s future in the short term, Fabrizio Romano emphasizes. According to the transfer market expert, neither the midfielder nor the management have heard anything official from the club about a possible loan in January. Romano responds to the message from England that Van de Beek would have been offered by the club at both Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United.

“Manchester United have not yet made a decision on a possible loan,” Romano said. “Nothing has been communicated to the player or the agent. Ralf Rangnick still wants Donny to stay until the end of the season. So far there has been no contact with Borussia Dortmund.” Romano has no information about Newcastle United’s alleged interest in the Dutchman.

Van de Beek recently had a long conversation with Rangnick. The trainer hopes that the midfielder will remain with the club despite the few playing minutes. “He should definitely stay until the end of this season and try to get as much playing time as possible. He would like to go to the World Cup in Qatar, but then he will need playing time.” Rangnick promised the former Ajax player more playing time. “He just has to keep working hard, then the playing time will come.”

In his first season, Van de Beek played nineteen Premier League matches, the majority of which as a substitute. This season, the counter is only at seven league games. When Rangnick succeeded the fired Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in early December, Van de Beek’s chances seemed to turn. However, the Dutchman did not come further than ninety minutes of playing time in the Champions League against Young Boys (1-1), in addition to a few ultra-short raids.

Van de Beek made his first minutes since December 11 in the FA Cup game against Aston Villa (1-0) last Monday, when he came on just before time against Norwich City. He lasted almost twenty minutes. The teams will meet again on Saturday, but this time during the Premier League game in Birmingham.
