Mauricio Pochettino will not leave Paris Saint-Germain, Fabrizio Romano assures on Sunday. The coach of the French superpower has recently been associated with a return to Tottenham Hotspur, but remains loyal to PSG according to the transfer expert. Pochettino should play a key role in bringing in Georginio Wijnaldum, who was previously coveted by the Argentine when he was still employed by Tottenham.
Pochettino was appointed by PSG in January this year to succeed the dismissed Thomas Tuchel, after he also played for the club between 2001 and 2003. The coach signed a contract until mid-2022 with an option for another year, but was recently seriously linked with a return to Tottenham Hotspur, where he worked between 2014 and 2019. He won the Trophée des Champions and the French Cup with PSG, but had to tolerate Lille OSC in the battle for the national title.
Tottenham saw Pochettino as the ideal candidate to replace Jose Mourinho who had been fired last season. according to The Athletic the PSG trainer was even in talks with the club where he was fired a year and a half ago. Romano also reported on Sunday that Pochettino must play an important role at PSG in bringing Wijnaldum in. The midfielder was personally warmed to the move to the French superpower, Romano added.
