Siebe Horemans will play for FC Utrecht in the coming seasons, the club from the Domstad announced on Thursday via official channels. The 25-year-old right back comes on a free transfer from Excelsior, where his contract expires at the end of June. Horemans is the second summer signing for Utrecht after Alonzo Engwanda (RSC Anderlecht).

Horemans has committed to Utrecht for three seasons. “With Siebe we bring in a right back who exudes calm and has a good passing ability,” says technical director Jordy Zuidam on the club website.

Zuidam thinks that Horemans is a good reinforcement for his club. “At Excelsior he has shown that he is an added value both defensively and offensively. We are happy that Siebe has chosen us and look forward to a good collaboration.” Horemans has not missed a match at Excelsior this season.

Horemans himself does not speak on the club website of his new employer, but does make himself heard through Excelsior channels. “I have played and learned a lot at Excelsior in recent years. As a football player, but also as a person. I have experienced everything here; Eredivisie, Kitchen Champion Division, relegation in 2019, promotion in 2022.”

“I was able to develop during those six seasons and that means I can now make the switch to FC Utrecht. I am grateful to Excelsior and want to finish the season well here and ensure that Excelsior remains in the Eredivisie,” said Horemans, who has been playing in the Netherlands since 2018.

Excelsior took over the Belgian Horemans on a rental basis from KAA Gent in the summer of 2018, after which he signed permanently in Rotterdam a year later. In recent years he has grown into an absolute strongman at Excelsior. Horemans now has 188 official matches on behalf of the Kralingers, in which he scored 11 goals and 20 assists.

Due to his transfer-free status, Horemans is a cheap reinforcement for Utrecht. Transfer market estimates his current market value at 900,000 euros, but Excelsior will therefore not receive a transfer fee from his departure. After Engwanda, Horemans is the second Belgian reinforcement for Utrecht next summer.
