Latest update:

The match between competitors Excelsior and FC Utrecht did not produce a winner on Saturday evening. After ninety unexciting minutes, the score was 1-1. Jens Toornstra opened the scoring on behalf of the away team, before Siebe Horemans leveled the score after a nice assist from Couhaib Driouech.

Marinus Dijkhuizen had one change in store for his line-up. Lazaros Lamprou was replaced on the right flank by Derensili Sanches Fernandes. The other ten names also appeared at the kick-off in the home match against SC Heerenveen (3-0).

Utrecht coach Ron Jans saw no reason to change his line-up after the draw against leader PSV (1-1) in the previous round and sent the same eleven players out to pasture. This meant, among other things, that Sam Lammers, who was hired this winter, started again as striker.

The initial phase of the match had little spectacle. The first real chance only came when almost half an hour had passed: Oscar Fraulo, however, was unable to pass Excelsior keeper Stijn van Gassel.

Lammers also became somewhat dangerous, but the hired attack leader headed over the Rotterdam goal. The halftime score was therefore the same as the score at the first whistle.

While the first act had few highlights, things eventually became more interesting at the beginning of the second half. After more than an hour of play, Toornstra opened the score on behalf of Utrecht. The midfielder lashed out from the edge of the box and saw the ball drop in: 0-1.

The lead was short-lived, as Horemans scored the equalizer two minutes later. After a quick rush from Driouech, the defender was able to finish: 1-1.

Utrecht was slightly stronger in the first half, Excelsior was the better side in the second act and so the 1-1 final score was fair for both teams.
