RKC Waalwijk booked an important victory at Go Ahead Eagles on Saturday evening. Etienne Vaessen played an important part in this: the goalkeeper of the Waalwijkers provided the assist for the opening goal with a long pass. It had not happened since 2013 that an RKC goalkeeper gave a decisive pass (at the time Jeroen Zoet, hired from PSV). RKC climbs to fourteenth place and now has a margin of six points in the relegation zone. Go Ahead remains eleventh.
Go Ahead got three corners in a row in the opening phase of the match. One chance followed: Justin Bakker saw his header end up on the roof of the goal. Out of nowhere, RKC took the lead in the 21st minute. Goalkeeper Vaessen sent a long ball to Finn Stokkers, who was able to continue walking due to disorder in the back of Go Ahead. The striker completed cool-bloodedly by flipping over Warner Hahn: 0-1.

Thirteen minutes later, Hahn gave away the next goal to the Waalwijkers. The goalkeeper was put under pressure by Stokkers with the ball at the foot, but nevertheless tried to keep building up in the back. Kramer intercepted Hahn’s pass and simply shot the ball in: 0-2. Go Ahead turned out to be totally unable to defend the RKC defense in the remainder of the match. Inigo Córdoba had a free shooting opportunity twenty minutes before the end, but the striker’s attempt lacked all conviction.
