Borussia Dortmund has qualified for the quarter finals of the Champions League for the first time since 2016/17. The team of trainer Edin Terzic kept Sevilla on a draw on Tuesday evening, three weeks after the 2-3 victory in southern Spain: 2-2. Erling Braut Haaland played a leading role with two hits. Haaland is the youngest player ever to score in six Champions League matches in a row (20 years, 232 days) after Tuesday and there is no player who has scored as often as he did in his first fourteen Champions League appearances: 20 times. He is also the youngest footballer ever to score such a number of goals in the Champions League.

Sevilla came onto the field with a clear intention to turn the tide. Julen Lopetegui’s team had the ball, Borussia pushed back in its own half, but barely succeeded in aiming at Marwin Hitz’s goal. After two minutes of play, the final post had to come into action on a shot by Lucas Ocampos, but the visitors were unable to continue this line in the remainder of the first half.

Borussia Dortmund, in turn, did not get further than one shot on goal, but it was immediately hit. When Sevilla wanted to launch an attack from the rear ten minutes before the interruption, Jules Koundé made an unnecessary shoulder push and the ball was lost. Mahmoud Dahoud passed the ball on the left to Marco Reus, who delivered the ball to Haaland just before the back line. The Norwegian simply ticked the opening goal those Boruses inside: 1-0.

Just after the break, one of the most remarkable moments in the history of the VAR era took place. Haaland went through the defense of Sevilla like a bulldozer after a combination with Thorgan Hazard and took the 2-0. However, the goal was rejected by referee Cüneyt Çakir and the VAR because Koundé had committed a foul on the Norwegian. Haaland then shot the ball from eleven meters against the post, but goalkeeper Yassine Bounou had come off his line too early. In the second chance, Haaland did shoot the ball against the ropes. The Norwegian bit Bounou at something during the cheering, after which the players of Sevilla became furious and he eventually got yellow.

After an hour of playing, Lopetegui opted for Alejandro’s entrance Papu Gómez and Luuk de Jong. The Dutchman was at the base of the 2-1 a few minutes later when he was brought down by Emre Can in the penalty area. Youssef En-Nesyri did not fail from eleven meters: 2-1. Sevilla needed two goals to force an extension, but the visitors were unable to do so. The 3-1 was even more in the air: a bet from Jude Bellingham narrowly passed the intersection and Bounou turned a shot from Dahoud. In the fifth minute of extra time, the 2-2, a striking header from En-Nesyri, appeared on the scoreboard, but that was it.
