Christian Eriksen showed his best side on Sunday evening. The Danish midfielder has sent a personal message to Evie Martin, a nine-year-old girl who has long struggled with heart problems, went into cardiac arrest last year and is currently waiting for a pacemaker. Evie’s family asked Eriksen for a statement of support on the eve of the placement of a subcutaneous defibrillator.

Evie’s family had submitted the request by letter to Eriksen to send a video message. The young victim is on the eve of major heart surgery, which is comparable to the medical procedure Eriksen underwent. After his cardiac arrest in the European Championship match with Finland, Eriksen received an ICD, a subcutaneous defibrillator that intervenes in heart problems. The day after the special request, Eriksen comes with a warm video message, for which he gets a lot of positive reactions on social media. The midfielder’s video was shared by at least 500 people, according to the girl’s father, Nicola Martin, so that the message eventually reached the family and the girl.

“Hi, Christian here! Thank you very much for your beautiful letter that I have just read,” Eriksen says in the personal video. “I hope you’re doing well and that you’re ready for surgery. I know it is never pleasant to be in the hospital, but the doctors know what they are doing and they will help you. I am convinced that you will soon be able to resume your normal life. It worked for me too, and I’m sure it will work out for you too. I wish you all the best,” Eriksen said.

Evie’s father says on Facebook that he is very impressed by Eriksen’s beautiful gesture. “Mission accomplished! We are all overwhelmed by the amount of support and response from our family, friends and complete strangers! The message was shared almost 500 times and reached a nice man in Denmark named Kasper who helped get this message to us. What a wonderful man you are Christian Eriksen, thank you so much for making Evie’s wish come true. Kindness is everything”, concludes Martin.
