With Julian Nagelsmann on his way from RB Leipzig to Bayern Munich, Tottenham Hotspur can scrap his dream candidate for the vacant manager position. Erik ten Hag is therefore moving up a place on the wish list of the Spurs, reports The Telegraph. The coach of Ajax is then stuck in the Johan Cruijff ArenA for one more season, which means that Tottenham does not expect to have to pay insurmountable compensation.

Last week reported Football London for the first time about the interest of the British superpower in Ten Hag, which The Telegraph thus confirms. Tottenham has drawn up a profile: the new trainer must be ‘progressive and offensive’, must have a ‘preference for football from possession’ and above all must ‘fit within the club culture’. Mauricio Pochettino’s time, between 2014 and 2019, serves as a blueprint for this.

The Telegraph states that in addition to Ten Hag, the clubless Ralf Rangnick is still in the picture. The German is praised for his philosophy by his fellow countrymen Nagelsmann, Thomas Tuchel (Chelsea), Jürgen Klopp (Liverpool) and Ralph Hasenhüttl (Southampton). Rangnick has been clubless since his departure from RB Leipzig in 2019 and is therefore a relatively cheap option for Tottenham.

Furthermore, the name of Gareth Southgate also emphatically sings around at Tottenham. According to The Telegraph has the current England coach one step ahead because of his good relationship with Harry Kane, the top scorer and captain of Tottenham. However, Southgate has committed itself to the English national team until the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and therefore does not seem feasible in the short term.

Brendan Rodgers is also in the picture, but the current manager of Leicester City does not seem interested in Tottenham. Rodgers is on the cusp of qualifying for the Champions League group stage with Leicester, which Tottenham is unlikely to be able to do this season. Leicester will also play the FA Cup final against Chelsea on May 15. Finally, Roberto Martínez is also mentioned. The national coach of Belgium, who previously worked successfully at Everton, may want to return to work as a club coach after the European Championship.
