Jesse Marsch is the intended successor of Julian Nagelsmann at RB Leipzig, Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reveals on Tuesday. The expectation is that the number two in the Bundesliga will soon announce the arrival of the American coach, now connected to Red Bull Salzburg. According to Romano, Erik ten Hag was also on the Leipzig list, which now appears to have set his sights on a collaboration with Marsch.

In addition to Romano, various Swiss media also assure that the transition from Marsch to Leipzig is only a matter of time. The Salzburg trainer recently spoke with Sky about a possible employment contract with Leipzig. “I know the club very well and if you ask me what would suit me best, then RB Leipzig is of course an ideal option.” However, Marsch also had a reservation. “Julian Nagelsmann does a great job there and so there is no reason for Leipzig to look for a new trainer. But if I also had the opportunity to work there, that would be great for me.” Marsch worked as an assistant to Ralf Rangnick at Leipzig in the 2018/19 season, before moving to Salzburg. His contract in Austria will continue for more than a year.

Bayern Munich has since confirmed that Nagelsmann will be the new trainer in the Allianz Arena, which has accelerated Leipzig’s interest in Marsch. Ten Hag has been associated with a Bundesliga club for the third time in a short period of time. Various German media previously mentioned him at Borussia Mönchengladbach and Eintracht Frankfurt respectively. The former club has now opted for Adi Hütter from Frankfurt. Ten Hag is now according to The Telegraph also a serious Tottenham Hotspur candidate, who fired José Mourinho last week.

With the departure of Nagelsmann to Bayern, Tottenham has one less option. As a result, Ten Hag is moving up a place, or so it sounds from England. Last week reported Football London for the first time about the interest of the British superpower in Ten Hag, which The Telegraph thus confirms. Tottenham has drawn up a profile: the new trainer must be ‘progressive and offensive’, must have a ‘preference for football from possession’ and above all must ‘fit within the club culture’. Mauricio Pochettino’s time, between 2014 and 2019, serves as a blueprint for this.

The Telegraph states that in addition to Ten Hag, the clubless Ralf Rangnick is still in the picture. The German is praised for his philosophy by his fellow countrymen Nagelsmann, Thomas Tuchel (Chelsea), Jürgen Klopp (Liverpool) and Ralph Hasenhüttl (Southampton). Rangnick has been clubless since his departure from RB Leipzig in 2019 and is therefore a relatively cheap option for Tottenham. England coach Gareth Southgate and Brendan Rodgers are also being put forward, although the manager of Leicester City does not seem to have any interest in the manager position in North London.
