A remarkable rumor from Germany on Friday evening, where FC Volendam goalkeeper Mio Backhaus is associated with a transfer to FC Barcelona. According to Patrick Berger from Sky Sports the goalkeeper has been scouted several times this season by the Catalan superpower.

Barcelona's interest is striking, as Backhaus was relegated to the Kitchen Champion Division with Volendam. The German goalie also had to fish no fewer than 88 times, the most of all goalkeepers in the Eredivisie.

Backhaus was taken over on loan from Werder Bremen last summer and did not play minutes in only one competition match. In all other 33 games he kept just three clean sheets.

Nevertheless, the Eredivisie relegation can count on interest from Catalonia, according to reports from Germany. Backhaus will in principle return to Werder Bremen this summer, where he still has a continuous contract.

Sky knows that in addition to Barcelona, more clubs have inquired about Backhaus' contract situation. The goalkeeper talent only turned twenty a month ago.

The young Backhaus went through the youth academies of Alemannia Aachen and Werder Bremen, before ending up in the promise team at the latter club.

Volendam offered a temporary solution with the prospect of playing minutes and decided to bring him to the Kras Stadium last summer. Backhaus quickly became the undisputed number one between the posts, but was unable to prevent him from becoming the most passed goalkeeper of 2023/24.
