AZ has to look for a new leader for its youth academy. Marijn Beuker, the head of performance and development of the Alkmaarders, is moving to the Scottish Queen’s Park, the latter club proudly announces. The third divisionist from Scotland heralds Beuker as ‘one of European football’s most esteemed leaders in player development’. The English media are also full of praise for the 37-year-old director.

By the Daily Record Beuker is referred to as star maker, because of his impressive track record at AZ. He has been involved in the youth academy of the Alkmaarders for the past fourteen years, of which the last eight years as responsible. In that period, AZ experienced enormous growth. The breakthrough of own talents such as Guus Til, Ridgeciano Haps, Teun Koopmeiners, Calvin Stengs and Myron Boadu are seen as the crowning glory of Beuker’s work in Alkmaar.

Queen’s Park explains on its website why Beuker was attracted. “Marijn Beuker is known as a long-term innovative thinker and has led the extraordinary player development work at the Dutch top team AZ for the past fifteen years. During this period, AZ has grown into a leading development institute in Europe. On average 47.8% of all official playing minutes come from homegrown players and the club has grown into one of the most attractive young teams in the Eredivisie and European tournaments.”

Beuker will be given the position of at Queen’s Park, which is fourth in the Scottish League One Director of Football Operations. “I am extremely proud that I can take this new step in my career at one of the oldest clubs in the world,” said Beuker on the website of his new employer. “The club’s ambition to create lasting success and the well thought-out plan to make an impact in modern football in the coming years appeals to me enormously. I see many opportunities to help Queen’s Park achieve these goals and can’t wait to work together starting a new future with all staff for the club’s development programs and recruitment process.”
