Eljero Elia returns to ADO Den Haag. According to Broadcasting West there is no definitive collaboration yet, but the thirty-time the Dutch international will in any case train with Ruud Brood’s team. On Tuesday, the winger will be on the training field for the first time with the number four of the Kitchen Champion Division.
The 34-year-old Elia has not yet signed definitively with ADO. The reason that the boat is being held off for a while is the financial situation of the club. If the club is in calmer waters, it is the intention of both parties, it sounds like. Elia made his debut for ADO in 2005 and appeared in sixty official games in three seasons. In 2007 he then made the switch to FC Twente.
Elia is without a club after his contract with FC Utrecht was dissolved earlier this year. In recent months, he has been linked to various clubs from abroad. There was interest from the United States, among others. Inter Miami FC from Major League Soccer was named as an interested club. Kayserispor, Bursaspor and Göztepe also passed by in the corridors.
ADO trainer Brood was asked several times about Elia’s situation in recent weeks. He invariably said that the talks are ongoing and that Elia is sympathetic to a collaboration, but that ADO is unable to do much due to the financial situation. In the meantime, Elia kept his condition up with a personal trainer.
