Ajax may have the opportunity to sell Jurgen Ekkelenkamp. The 21-year-old midfielder is in talks with Hertha BSC about a definitive transition, reports BILD. The alleged interest in Ajax comes as called for: Ekkelenkamp’s contract expires next year and it would be one of the last opportunities to earn from the Jong Oranje international.

Hertha was also interested last year, but then Ajax did not want to cooperate in a transfer. Marc Overmars now hopes for an amount of ‘several millions’, so it sounds. In principle, Ekkelenkamp is also available for rental, but in that case he would have to extend his contract expiring next year. FC Twente reported to Ajax earlier, but the team from Amsterdam did not meet the deadline from Enschede, after which the transfer was cancelled. KRC Genk and sc Heerenveen were also mentioned earlier as interested parties.

Ekkelenkamp made his debut in Ajax’s main squad three years ago and then mainly played for the U23 team of the team from Amsterdam. The midfielder seemed close to his final breakthrough last season: he got a lot of playing minutes under Erik ten Hag, especially in the first half of the season, but disappeared further and further out of the picture as the season progressed. In total, he is on 39 official matches for Ajax, in which he scored 6 times and provided 5 assists.
