Internazionale has found its way back to the top of the Serie A after two league defeats in a row. Simone Inzaghi’s team was 1-2 too strong when visiting Sassuolo and therefore climbs to seventh place. Edin Dzeko was the big man in the away team with two goals and made his 100th goal in Serie A with his first goal. André Onana made his league debut for Internazionale on Saturday afternoon.
The goalkeeper has already made his appearance in the Champions League three times, but has not yet played a duel in the Serie A for Inzaghi’s team. Stefan de Vrij was on the bench at Internazionale for the third consecutive league match. The ex-Feyenoord player had to settle for a reserve role in the matches against Udinese (3-1 loss) and AS Roma (1-2 loss). The away team dominated in possession in the opening phase of the game, which went back and forth in the first ten minutes, and almost took advantage of it after fifteen minutes of play. Dumfries found Lautaro Martínez in the penalty area with a fine cross, but the Argentinian worked the ball wide. It took until the 44th minute before Dzeko opened the scoring for Internazionale. Dumfries headed the ball after a corner from Hakan Calhanoglu towards the striker, who made his hundredth goal in Serie A with a handy foot movement: 0-1.
Sassuolo, who played a fine game, equalized after fifteen minutes of play. It was left back Rogério who gave Davide Frattesi an unmissable opportunity with a great cross. The Italian midfielder completed the ball low under Onana: 1-1. Andrea Consigli initially kept Sassuolo in the game with a great save on a header from Martínez, but in the attack that followed, Dzeko scored again.
