Manchester City took an important step towards the next Premier League title on Wednesday evening. Pep Guardiola’s team was 4-1 too strong for title competitor Arsenal in their own Etihad Stadium, which did not get a moment into the game. At Kevin de Bruyne’s 3-0, goalkeeper Ederson decided to mock the traveling Arsenal supporters through a series of hand gestures.

Hopeful Arsenal fans had made the midweek trip from London to see their side move one step closer to clinching the Premier League title. But they were left discouraged by hits from De Bruyne (twice) and Jon Stones. Erling Braut Haaland provided the final chord with his 33rd of the season. Rob Holding just did something in return on behalf of the Gunners.

Footage has now emerged showing Ederson jeering at rival Arsenal supporters at the Etihad Stadium with a series of hand gestures and actions. While his teammates took the time to celebrate De Bruyne’s 3-0, the 29-year-old decided to mock the visitors’ fans. Ederson clenched his fists and held them moving before his eyes, a clear suggestion that Arsenal supporters were weeping at their side’s performance.

City’s surrounding fans cheered their goalkeeper on realizing what he was doing and encouraged him to further antagonize the opposition. Ederson did so, and as the Arsenal fans were furious, he stuck out his tongue and grinned, knowing that the Citizens had already secured the victory with a 3-0 lead shortly after the break.

With the win, City narrows the gap to leader Arsenal to two points with two games in hand. City are still seven games away from their third league title in a row. The last time a club in the Premier League achieved that was between 2006 and 2009, when Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United reigned supreme. City will visit Fulham on Sunday, while Arsenal awaits a home game with Chelsea next Tuesday.
