Several well-known Dutch people have expressed their incomprehension on social media about partying supporters in the Johan Cruijff ArenA, Saturday evening during Ajax – NEC (5-0). They are disappointed that football stadiums can largely be filled, while theaters and pop venues will remain closed to the general public for the time being. Comedian Richard Groenendijk and singer-actor Jim Bakkum, among others, speak out.

Images are shared on Instagram showing partying Ajax supporters in their own stadium. “It’s a good thing that we keep that one and a half meters in the theater, because in my room it is often much more intense than here,” Groenendijk responds cynically under the video he shares on his account. “I already have these scenes when I sing a ballad… Can you check if I “Tebbie on your mouth?!” stake. Then you are not sure for your life in the theaters in Sittard and Hoogeveen.”

Stylist and presenter Fred van Leer shares the same video on Instagram with partying Ajax fans. “I give it to everyone!!!! But I also mean EVERYONE!!!!!”, says Van Leer, who receives support from colleagues for his video. “We can no longer remain silent. Is READY!”, writes singer Glennis Grace. Edsilia Rombley and Danny de Munk also seem to agree with Van Leer’s words. “When I received the umpteenth message yesterday with canceled shows while I see this on TV THE SAME evening .. I didn’t know what to think anymore,” writes vocal coach Rob de Nijs on social media. “It’s impossible to reconcile”, reacts actress cum presenter Marlijn Weerdenburg. Jim Bakkum says: “It’s so, so crooked.”

In professional sports matches, two thirds of the seats in the stadium may be occupied. Supporters also don’t have to keep one and a half meters away from each other. Other rules do apply: anyone who cannot show a vaccination certificate, recovery certificate or negative corona test is not welcome. While the football stadiums may be partly filled, the pop venues and theaters will remain closed to the general public. Performances and concerts where visitors do not have a permanent seat are not allowed. One-day festivals can only take place this summer under strict conditions. A maximum of 750 visitors are allowed and the festival must take place in the open air or in an open tent.
