Francesco Antonucci has suffered a lot from allergies and resulting respiratory problems this season. The midfielder of FC Volendam, who will play for Feyenoord next season, tells in conversation with The Telegraph that he was taking medication during an injury period in January and his body did not respond well to it. Research has revealed that he has hives.

Initially, Antonucci only shared his physical malheur with trainer Wim Jonk, Ruben Jongkind and Jasper van Leeuwen, people he knows from his time in Ajax’s youth academy. “After taking a shower I kept having a rash. That’s how it started,” says the 21-year-old Belgian. “I just came back from an injury and didn’t want to be out of circulation again. But I was getting more and more tired, couldn’t bring what I wanted to practice and competitions and that frustrated me.”

As a result, he regularly failed to complete ninety minutes. “Also for prevention, so as not to get injured. At one point I had to recover after every action, I could no longer do the extra sprints during the training and then I sometimes slept for three hours in a row. Then everyone could see and I also told what was going on “, continues Antonucci, who was told by doctors that he also had to adjust his diet.

Antonucci said his diet worsened the situation after his body had an allergic reaction to the drugs he was taking while he was suffering from a knee injury. “I had to accept it and be patient. That was difficult for me, because I really want to help Volendam try to get a PhD and secondly I want to show Feyenoord that I can be of value in the future.” On Friday he competed for ninety minutes against Helmond sport (5-1 victory) and in that match it went ‘very well’, according to Antonucci.
