Denzel Dumfries did himself a very good service on Saturday evening at Internazionale. The wing defender provided an assist and a front assist in a 6-1 win over Bologna. It was the first time for Dumfries to show it from the kick-off, having previously made two appearances in Serie A. Edin Dzeko scored two of the six goals and brought his season total to three. Inter leads the way in Italy with ten points from four games.

From the bench, Sydney van Hooijdonk and Mitchell Dijks, who would come on later, saw that things went wrong for their team early in the game. Dumfries steamed up on the right side of the field, received the ball and served Lautaro Martínez at the far post with a flawless cross. It was then a breeze for the Argentinian to finish up close. Inter had little to fear from Bologna in the first company and only conceded a shot from Roberto Soriano, who saw his effort turned by Samir Handanovic halfway through the first half.

Inter then decided to close the game within five minutes of play. After half an hour of play, Federico Dimarco placed a corner on the head of Milan Skriniar, who headed hard: 2-0. Just before that, Dzeko replaced the injured Joaquin Correa, who was hit on the hip. Ten minutes before half-time, Nicolò Barella lifted the margin to three on behalf of Inter, when Dumfries once again claimed an important part in the attacking game. His cross from the right could be removed with difficulty by Lorenzo De Silvestri, after which Barella could easily print in the rebound: 3-0.

In the second act the picture of the game did not change and it was again Inter that struck the clock. After Martínez first hit the bar with a shot near the penalty spot, Matías Vecino was accurate. The midfielder saw both Dzeko and Dumfries mow over the ball, but kept a cool head himself at the far post. It was clear from the fifth Milanese goal that things didn’t go well with the visitors. Both Kevin Bonifazi and Dijks failed to clean up, after which Dzeko profited gratefully: 5-0.

By the way, Dijks came in after an hour of play, while Van Hooijdonk got off the bench twenty minutes before time. However, the striker did not get any opportunity to distinguish himself and saw how Dzeko signed for his second of the evening. The striker received the ball on the left side of the sixteen with some fortune from Alexis Sánchez and found the short corner with a hard shot. The final chord was for the visitors via Arthur Theate, who headed into the right corner: 6-1.
