Fortuna Sittard took a giant step in the league table in the Eredivisie on Saturday evening. The team of trainer Sjors Ultee was too strong for FC Twente in-house and triumphed 3-0. Lisandro Semedo had an important share in the victory with two hits. Due to the victory, Fortuna climbs over the Enschede team and is now ninth at two points from Heracles, which is number eight in a play-off spot. Twente, on the other hand, drops three places and now has to settle for twelfth place. Ron Jans’ team has been waiting for a victory for nine games.

At Fortuna, Yanick van Osch returned under the bar. The goalkeeper had to pass up last week’s game with ADO Den Haag (0-3), when he was replaced by Piet Velthuizen. Roel Janssen, who was suspended due to criticisms against referee Joey Kooij, also returned to the starting eleven. At Twente, Wout Brama appeared again at the kick-off after an absence of three games. The home team started the game significantly better and got two header chances through Martin Angha early in the game. The first disappeared into the side net, while on the second attempt Joël Drommel was in the way.

Halfway through the first half Semedo managed to find the net. The winger was served with a deep pass by Tesfaldet Tekie, was outsmarted by Dario Dumic and shot diagonally for the 1-0. Just before that, Emil Hansson failed hopelessly for an empty goal on a pass from Mats Seuntjens, by shooting into Drommel from a meter away. On the stroke of half time, Twente thought they would be on the same level when Dumic hit a spinning free kick from Gijs Smal, but referee Laurens Gerrets put a stop to that. The arbitrator followed his assistant’s flag signal and rejected the hit on the advice of the VAR.

In the second act, the game hardly changed and Twente could thank its goalkeeper that the score did not increase further early in the second half. For example, Drommel saved on a wrong pass by Nathan Markelo and he also had a good reflex on a shot from Flemming. The game was closed after an hour of play by Seuntjens, who was allowed to moor from eleven meters after a handball from Brama. Drommel was still there with one hand, but could not prevent the 2-0. When Twente then went on the hunt for the goal of honor, Semedo took advantage of the switch. The attacker could only approach the Twente goal and finished in a controlled manner in the right corner: 3-0.
