The municipality of Amsterdam is busy preparing a tribute cruise for the Dutch national team, Valentijn Driessen told Today Inside. According to the football chief of The Telegraph Will this also happen if you finish second at the European Championship?

“Coincidentally, I spoke to Marianne van Leeuwen, the director of the KNVB, yesterday and she also said: 'How strange, there may be a tribute on the programme if you come second,'” Driessen explained to reporter Noa Vahle.

The journalist can't wrap his head around it: “I said to Van Leeuwen: 'What kind of idiocy is this? You're here to win, aren't you?' Then she said: 'No, no, that's not what I'm in favor of at all, let's not start.'”

Driessen was then told that the municipality of Amsterdam still wants to have a tribute cruise for the second place. “She indicated that the municipality of Amsterdam is doing everything it can and is doing everything it can to build and prepare things, costs are being incurred.”

“For a cruise for a second place… You don't go on the water as a second, come on,” says Driessen. “I don't think the EC is a success if you come second, or reach the semi-finals. You just have to win the tournament.”

Johan Derksen also finds it very strange and states that the municipality of Amsterdam can better focus on other matters. “As a player, you have to refuse that. As an the Dutch international, you don't stand on such a boat, do you?”, says the moustache. Wilfred Genee points out that after the 2010 World Cup there was also a tribute boat tour in Amsterdam when the Dutch team was the losing finalist. “That was like a pig on a stick, wasn't it?”
