Wout Weghorst is in the serious interest of Tottenham Hotspur, so assures Tubantia Sunday afternoon. According to the regional newspaper, the English club is looking for a new striker and the Dutch striker of VfL Wolfsburg ‘could become a player of Tottenham Hotspur this week just like that’. Weghorst comes from the Twente area, which may explain why Tubantia already reports the interest of the Londoners.

Weghorst has never made a secret of ever wanting to play in England. The striker made the switch from AZ to Wolfsburg two years ago for about 10.5 million and proved to be able to play at a higher level the past two seasons: in 66 Bundesliga games he scored 33 goals and gave 10 assists.

Weghorst was at an earlier stage by BILD has already been linked to a transfer to Arsenal, but the interest of the Gunners never got off the ground seriously. However, the 28-year-old striker may be able to continue his career in London, now that Tottenham Hotspur has turned his eye on him.

The Spurs Strengthened earlier this summer with Joe Hart, Matt Doherty, Sergio Reguilón, Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg and Gareth Bale, but behind attack leader Harry Kane the flush is thin. Manager José Mourinho’s club was also recently linked to Bas Dost, but Kicker ensured earlier this week that he’d rather stay at Eintracht Frankfurt. Weghorst still has a contract until the summer of 2023 at Wolfsburg.
