Lassina Traoré will not play for the rest of the season and possibly the start of the next, Shakhtar Donetsk reports on his website. The twenty-year-old striker, who came over from Ajax for ten million euros last summer, suffered a serious knee injury in the Champions League match against Internazionale (0-0) after an unfortunate collision with Denzel Dumfries.

Traoré unfortunately ended up under his body in a duel with the right-back of Inter last Tuesday. The Burkinese had to go off the field on a stretcher and appears to have seriously damaged his knee ligaments. “The injury is really serious,” club doctor Artur Hlushchenko said. “There is damage to the knee joint and he will have surgery in two weeks, when the swelling has subsided.”

Traoré’s recovery is expected to take nine to 12 months, Hlushchenko said. A huge blow to the center striker, who had started his adventure in Ukraine very strongly. Traoré has already scored nine goals in fourteen official matches and even has an average of six goals in seven matches in the competition.
