Bas Dost did himself a very good service on Saturday evening. The striker won with Club Brugge on a visit to Sint-Truiden and took care of the entire production: 1-2. It was only his third starting spot of the season for Dost. On Wednesday he was also accurate twice in the cup tournament against Deinze (3-0 win). Bruges leads the way in Belgium with a point ahead of Union Sint-Gillis, but Philippe Clement’s team did play one more game.

Clement made two changes to his basic team against Sint-Truiden compared to the top match against Royal Antwerp (1-1). In the back, Brandon Mechele replaced the suspended Stanley N’Soki, while Dost also had a starting spot. In midfield, Ruud Vormer was preferred over Mats Rits. The duel was under way for half a minute, when Dost was accurate for the first time. After a good action by Noa Lang and mediocre defensive work for the home team, the attack leader was ready to tap his compatriot’s cross into the goal: 0-1.

Barely five minutes later, Dost already seemed to sign for his second of the evening. This time the preparatory work was done by Charles De Ketelaere, but it was the outside of the post that saved Sint-Truiden. The first time the home team appeared dangerously in front of the goal, it was immediately hit. Sint-Truiden barely appeared in the game in the first quarter of the game and had to fear a greater deficit, but tied the score via Robert Bauer, who was able to take a free kick and round from the inside of the post: 1 -1.

The initial phase of the second half was also for Sint-Truiden, but it was thanks to Simon Mignolet that Bruges did not fall behind. The goalkeeper had an excellent reflex on a header by Daiki Hashioka. Barely five minutes later, Dost was accurate for the second time. On a pass from Eduard Sobol, the Dutchman put his team on 1-2 with the head. A setback for Bruges was the yellow card for Lang. After more than an hour of play, the winger started to hang on to his opponent and misses the duel with Standard Liège next week due to his yellow card. In midweek, Clement’s team will face Manchester City in the Champions League for the first time.
