Donyell Malen will not be in Borussia Dortmund’s base on Tuesday evening in the battle against Bayern Munich for the DFL Supercup, the battle between the national champion and the winner of the DFB-Pokal. The attacker, who came over from PSV, starts on the bench, just like in the two previous matches of Marco Rose’s team. It is striking that sixteen-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko, who only participated eight minutes in the first two matches of this season, will form a couple with Erling Braut Haaland. The top game in the Signal Iduna Park will start at 8.30 pm.
Malen made his official debut ten days ago in the outfit of Borussia Dortmund. The ex-PSV player participated for 24 minutes in the cup match with SV Wehen Wiesbaden (0-3), as a replacement for Steffen Tigges, and a week later his debut in the Bundesliga waited. In the 5-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, Malen made his appearance as a replacement for Belgian international Thorgan Hazard seventeen minutes before the end.
The eyes will mainly be on Haaland, who has started the new season very strongly. In the cup match with SV Wehen Wiesbaden, the Norwegian took all goals from those Borus on his behalf. Last Saturday, in the first Bundesliga game, Haaland was involved in all of Rose’s goals against Eintracht Frankfurt. The striker, who will face the Dutch national team on September 1, scored twice and prepared the three other hits.
This is only the second official game of the football season for Bayern. The cup match with Bremer SV was postponed due to a corona outbreak at the opponent. The Bavarian top club failed to start the competition with a victory last Friday. In Julian Nagelsmann’s official debut on the bench, Borussia Mönchengladbach had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
No fewer than four of the five previous editions of the DFL Supercup have been between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. In 2016 Bayern won 2-0 and also a year later it was of the Rekordmeister the strongest when regular time had ended in 2-2 and a penalty shootout was the deciding factor: 5-4. In 2018 Bayern was no less than 5-0 too strong for Eintracht Frankfurt and a year Borussia Dortmund came out as the winner: 0-2. Last year’s edition between Bayern and Borussia finished 3-2 in Munich last year.
