Donny van de Beek has finalized his transfer to Girona. The Nijkerkervener signs a three-year contract with the Catalans, with whom he will play in the Champions League next season.

Van de Beek brings Manchester United at least half a million euros, according to Fabrizio Romano. Through easily achievable bonuses, that amount could increase to four to five million. The total cost for Girona could increase to ten to fifteen million through more difficult to achieve bonuses.

Van de Beek made the switch from Ajax to Manchester United in 2020, but was never able to meet the high expectations there, partly due to injuries. Last season, Van de Beek was loaned to Eintracht Frankfurt, but that adventure also ended in disappointment given his limited playing time.

“I would like to thank everyone for the support over the years,” Van de Beek recently wrote in his farewell message to Manchester United. “From the moment we arrived at Manchester United, we have felt extremely welcome and we are grateful for that,” Van de Beek continued.

“Thank you to everyone at this club who helped make us feel at home. Special thanks to all the fans who made these years unforgettable. Apart from football, Manchester will always have a special place in our hearts because of the birth of our two children.”

“Good luck everyone, our paths will cross again,” Van de Beek concluded. The new adventure of the nineteen-time Oranje international begins now.

In Spain he will play for Girona, who earlier this week presented Gabriel Misehouy. The youngster comes over from Ajax on a free transfer. Daley Blind is also under contract with the stunt team of the past LaLiga season.
