The match in the 2. Bundesliga between Hamburger SV and Hannover 96 (3-4) led to quite a commotion on Friday evening. Not only was the score progression spectacular, there was also plenty happening outside the lines. In Germany they are disgusted by a banner in the guest section.

HSV could have consolidated itself more firmly in second place with a victory over Hannover, but had to accept a defeat deep in injury time. If Holstein Kiel and Greuther Furth win on Saturday, the fallen top club will drop to fourth place in the rankings.

Afterwards, however, there was not only discussion about the course of the game. Protests were held on various fields in Germany on Friday against the billion-dollar deal that the German Football League is trying to conclude with an external investor.

Tennis balls were thrown onto the field at Borussia Dortmund – SC Freiburg. At HSV – Hannover, fans of the home club hung padlocks on the goal, which had to be sawed apart.

Hannover's fans took it one step further by depicting CEO Martin Kind's head with a shooting sight. Players and trainers had to step in to take away the emotions in the away section.

When it turned out that this had no effect, the referee decided to stop the match. Ultimately, 22 (!) minutes of injury time were added. Hannover came out on top 2 hours and 40 minutes after kick-off.

'Clear death threat'

“The disgusting poster of the Hannover 'fans' is not a protest against evil DFL investors,” writes BILD. “This no longer has anything to do with freedom of expression. This goes much further than Gaga actions such as throwing tennis balls.”

“This is a clear death threat and must be legally treated as such,” the sentencing continues. “Anyone who had hoped that we would no longer experience such derailments in the stadiums after the gun attacks on Dietmar Hopp (in 2020, ed.) was unfortunately disappointed.”
