Ronald Waterreus thinks that Dirk Kuijt’s attitude as a coach contributes to the lesser results of his ADO Den Haag in the Kitchen Champion Division. The former goalkeeper and current columnist of The Limburger was impressed by the player Kuijt and advises him to use some of his qualities as a player during his coaching career.

After the 3-1 defeat of ADO against Jong PSV last Friday, the criticism of Kuijt increased again. Fans of the club from The Hague waved white handkerchiefs and earlier they came to the training field to get a story. Waterreus looks at it with sorrow. “In barely a few weeks, Kuijt has been relegated from ultimate folk hero to a kind of Clown Bassie”, can be read in his column in The Limburger. “A man at whom ‘we’ secretly chuckle when he blows his entire stock of clichés into the air after another lost match with ADO.”

Waterreus, on the other hand, had a lot of respect for Kuijt, since as a player he ‘climbed further and further step by step and thus got more than the maximum out of his possibilities’. “But in my opinion there is a paradox in the latter. The trainer Kuijt apparently feels too big to first gain a serious number of years of experience at Quick Boys or the promise team of FC Utrecht. Just like his contemporary. Wesley Sneijder lacks the real will to invest before seriously getting started in professional football, and then also at one of the most difficult clubs in the Netherlands.”

“In his short period as a Feyenoord youth coach, it was already an open secret that he sometimes wanted to give his players three days off, so that he could play a game with the Liverpool Legends himself,” Waterreus continues. “And now, at ADO, I feel that he is only dutifully acting as the self-assured and enthusiastic coach. All of this makes his rather hopeless position in The Hague so uncomfortable. If Dirk Kuijt had remained loyal to the footballer Dirk Kuijt, he would have can save all this suffering.”
