Dirk Kuijt has responded for the first time to his role as a witness in a major investigation into the criminal organization of the Hague criminal Piet S. The former attacker himself gambled via a website that, according to justice, may have been managed by the notorious criminal. Kuij tells his story opposite RTL 7.

“It is very annoying to be in the news like this. I took a gamble and I was naive in that. I would do it differently in the future,” explains Kuijt. It concerns the gambling site Edobet, which, according to the Public Prosecution Service, was set up by Freddy S., the son of Piet S. In the conversations overheard by the hack of the messaging service Encrochat, the police heard that Wesley Sneijder and Kuijt would regularly gamble via Edobet.

In Kuijt’s case, this would involve substantial amounts. “Dirk Kuijt sometimes plays 25 backs (25,000 euros, ed.) a day”, the police heard in the conversations. That is denied by the Katwijker. “Those amounts are not correct. I will have bet a bit more than the average Dutch person, but not as much as is mentioned in the piece. I also want to make it clear that I was heard as a witness and that I did not commit a criminal offense.”

Kuijt gave in the interrogations, read by the General Newspaper, admits that he played on Edobet after his active career. He played on credit. “I often left it on the site, but sometimes I got paid,” Kuijt was quoted as saying in the interrogations. “I would then meet someone at a gas station, for example. I liked doing this cash so I could play anonymously.” According to Kuijt, he did not play to get rich. “I was sometimes paid in cash. I didn’t play for the money, but I enjoyed playing.”

Sneijder responded to the coverage earlier this month via Instagram. He emphasized that he had nothing to do with ‘all that nonsense’ and wanted to disprove ‘Indian stories’ with a statement. His involvement is said to be based on a misunderstanding. According to Sneijder, a cousin of his father wrongly said that the former top football player stood surety for him if he could not pay.
