Go Ahead Eagles has been saddled with a loss of thousands of euros by its own supporters, the club announced on Friday afternoon. After the away match against RKC Waalwijk, supporters of the club were guilty of serious damage to one of the supporters buses. General director Jan Willem van Dop expresses his disgust on the website and makes an urgent appeal to the perpetrators.

Pretty soon after the game, images appeared on social media of Go Ahead supporters who were looking for a confrontation with fans of RKC. It has now emerged that one of the buses has also been seriously destroyed. “Windows and interior have been destroyed on a large scale,” says Van Dop on the website of the Deventer club. “We really didn’t know what we saw when we got back. The damage is in the thousands of euros.” Go Ahead has launched an investigation to find the perpetrators, but that has not yielded the desired result.

“That is why we urgently appeal to these individuals to report to us and to take their responsibility towards the club and fellow travelers”, Van Dop continues. “Otherwise, we will unfortunately have to recover the damage from all occupants of the bus. We are tired of having to pay for the actions of a few, with all the (financial) consequences that entails. Of course, a direct message will be sent to all passengers. of the bus, but we, like bus partner TCR Tours, are deeply shocked by the scale of this destruction.”

The club sees it as a moment to underline that aggression against traveling staff and the destruction of other people’s property is not acceptable. “Precisely to safeguard the interests of the well-meaning supporters – and fortunately they are still by far the majority – because no one wants a higher price for visiting an away game or heavier transport arrangements. We reward supporters who go along with loyalty points , but of course we cannot award it for this kind of behavior. Loyalty means loyalty, honesty and positive support,” concludes Van Dop.
