David Neres has been nominated by UEFA in the ‘Player of the Week’ category in the Europa League. The Brazilian winger owes the nomination to his goal in the return match against Young Boys (0-2) on Thursday evening. With Mislav Orsic, however, the competition for Neres is quite fierce. With a hat-trick, the Dinamo Zagreb attacker was personally responsible for the surprising elimination of Tottenham Hotspur in the eighth final.

Orsic signed for two goals in regular time, allowing Dinamo to force an extension. A week earlier they had lost 2-0 on a visit to Tottenham. In the extension, he brought everything and everyone at the Croatian superpower into ecstasy with the third hit. Neres also faces competition from Gerard Moreno, who took care of the entire production of Villarreal on Thursday evening in the home game against Dynamo Kiev (2-0). The Spaniards can therefore prepare for the quarter finals. The fourth nomination goes to Borja Mayoral. The attacker leased to AS Roma by Real Madrid brought both hits to his name in the away match against Shakhtar Donetsk (1-2).

It is the second week in a row that an Ajax player has been nominated for the prestigious individual prize in the Europa League. After the home game against Young Boys (3-0), Dusan Tadic joined the last four. The captain was one of the stars of Ajax in the Johan Cruijff ArenA, culminating in his goal in the 82nd minute. However, Tadic did not win, because after counting the votes on the UEFA website, Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane came out as the winner.

Whether Neres wins or not, the nomination is proof that Neres is on his way back to Ajax, after a period full of injuries. The winger was also accurate against Lille OSC in the second round of the Europa League, while in the Eredivisie there were goals in the duels with AZ and PEC Zwolle. Neres, who was fit again, also managed to find the net in the TOTO KNVB Cup. For the wing attacker, the counter in this calendar year is five hits.
