Johan Derksen is still not entirely positive about Feyenoord. The team from Rotterdam won all official games for the time being this season and beat IF Elfsborg (5-0) on Thursday, making a place in the group stage of the Conference League very close. Derksen was disturbed by the comments of NOS reporter Arman Avsaroglu, who spoke negatively about Dick Advocaat.

“Those people played really bad. But they thought so too. That’s not their standard. Feyenoord does enforce that. The big difference is that both Senesi and that Austrian boy (Gernot Trauner, ed.) play in the center circle. That is thirty meters further ahead than it was”, René van der Gijp starts in the program Veronica Inside about the match between Feyenoord and IF Elfsborg. Derksen then calls Feyenoord ‘quite a nice team’.

“I was in the car and I followed the race on the radio. I was so annoyed by that radio reporter with that Moroccan name,” Derksen points out to Avsaroglu. “Eloquent boy, he’s not doing so bad. But then he has a whole report. They play against the second team of Alblasserdam, don’t they. They walk over it and then he concludes that Advocaat has done very badly at Feyenoord. I think that’s a bit cheap.”

“Then there is Mrs Van Trigt (Annette van Trigt, presenter of the program) in the studio Along the line, ed.), she is not there because she can do something, but because she is married to the boss of the NOS. So she also gets to present and repeats that as a parrot. Those two were there finishing Lawyer, while he did an excellent job at Feyenoord in those years,” Derksen continues. Presenter Wilfred Genee points out that Feyenoord plays further forward under the new trainer Arne Slot and with Gernot Trauner at the heart of the defense.

“This is an adaptation that still works against bad opponents. But I wonder if you won’t get 6-0 if you play against PSV and Ajax like that,” Derksen responds. “Feyenoord is doing really well, you know. But this opponent would not beat IJsselmeervogels. They haven’t had a hard time yet. Feyenoord is of the level of Heerenveen, Groningen and Twente. The atmosphere is good and the newcomers have adapted very well. Let’s be glad things are getting better. But it is not the case that the leak is over and Feyenoord suddenly participates.”
