Denzel Dumfries sets foot on Italian soil on Thursday evening, Fabrizio Romano reports on Thursday afternoon. Earlier today, the Italian transfer expert announced an oral agreement between PSV and Internazionale about the transfer of the defender annex the Dutch international. According to Romano, 25-year-old Dumfries will arrive in Milan tonight to finalize the final details of his transfer to the Giuseppe Meazza.

According to Romano, PSV has a transfer fee of 12.5 million euros left over from the sale of Dumfries. Depending on the sporting performance of the defender and/or the club, this can increase during the contract period on the basis of variable bonuses. That would amount to another 2.5 to 3 million euros. This brings the total to between fifteen and twenty million euros, as PSV has demanded from the first moment for the surrender of the captain’s two-year contract from last season. Dumfries was acquired from sc Heerenveen in 2018 for 5.5 million euros.

Dumfries enjoyed a longer holiday after the European Championship and was initially given the space to make a transfer together with Donyell Malen. The striker already moved to Borussia Dortmund, but it remained quiet for a long time around Dumfries. Inter had been the main contender for weeks and it was recently reported that if Romelu Lukaku were to make the switch to Chelsea for 115 million euros, Dumfries would be at the top of the wish list. The transfer of Lukaku seems to be closed one of these days and so there is also the green light for the arrival of Dumfries, or so it sounds in Italy.

Marcel Brands’ Everton was also interested, but could not buy players. According to Italian sources, Inter reported to PSV with twelve million euros, but that offer was rejected by the people of Eindhoven. PSV demanded an amount of fifteen to twenty million euros, according to the Eindhovens Dagblad. In Eindhoven, there was no intention of cooperating with a rental with an option to buy, as both Inter and Everton suggested at an earlier stage.

Dumfries is likely to undergo a medical on Friday in Milan and finalize the details afterwards. Earlier this week, the player and club reached an agreement about a multi-year contract. Inter, the reigning national champions of Italy, will start the new season in the Serie A next Saturday with a home game against Genoa.
