Heracles Almelo booked his second victory of the season in the Eredivisie on Sunday evening at the expense of RKC Waalwijk. In a mediocre duel, in which the chances were scarce, Delano Burgzorg took care of the winning goal just after the break. Thanks to the victory, Frank Wormuth’s team rises from seventeenth to eleventh place in the ranking, while the Waalwijkers with sixteenth place are not coming from the lower regions for the time being.

Before the game, Tim Breukers was honored. The defender, good for 306 matches in Almelose service, made the decision in May to stop playing professional football and was put in the spotlight in the stadium. Heracles and RKC had trouble creating great opportunities in the first twenty minutes. The first exciting moment happened halfway through the first half. Juriën Gaari was lucky that he could stay on the field. The right back was only booked by referee Bas Nijhuis after interrupting a promising attack by the home team.

After half an hour of play, the team of trainer Wormuth got two more opportunities to open the score through Burgzorg. First the attacker intercepted Thierry Lotonda’s ball, only he did not score. Then goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen got in the way with a shot, so that both teams went to tea without any goals. Heracles immediately asserted himself again in the first minutes of the second act. However, Bilal Basacikoglu saw his shot go just wide after a fine individual action.

The home side did everything they could to take the lead after the break. It was again Burgzorg who managed to create danger, only this time he took his action too far. A minute later it was still hit for the attacker. Mats Knoester kept the ball well inside and then passed it to Burgzorg. The top scorer of the Heraclieden increased his total to three goals by outwitting Vaessen via the bottom of the bar: 1-0

Heracles hardly gave away any chances in the second half and was therefore able to look for a second goal. In the last fifteen minutes Rai Vloet had the perfect opportunity to close the game. The attacker came face to face with Vaessen, but then shot the ball into the goalkeeper’s fists. Thanks to the star on the side of RKC, the Waalwijkers stayed in the game in the final phase. However, Fred Grim’s team was unable to make a fist in attacking terms, leaving the three points on Erve Asito.
