Tim Handwerker will not be able to take action in the coming months. The 25-year-old defender of FC Utrecht suffered a knee injury during training. According to Jeroen Kapteijns from The Telegraph This is a cruciate ligament injury.

Utrecht reports the injury in a message on official channels. The Domstedelingen report that the German faces an operation and months of rehabilitation.

Handwerker plans to do that in Germany. He responds to his injury on the club website. “During a training session something went wrong for me and I injured my knee.”

“An injury never comes at a good time, but this timing is extremely unfortunate: I had a good time in Utrecht and was determined to be of value to the team and the club in the coming months. Unfortunately, these plans put this injury on hold. now a line.”

Handwerker may have already played his last game for Utrecht. The number eight from the Eredivisie has rented the left back to FC Nürnberg since this winter, and in principle he will return to the German club next summer.

Utrecht still has the option to take him over from Nürnberg on a permanent basis after this season. It is not yet known whether the club will do so.

So far, Handwerker has played two matches for Utrecht: he came on against Fortuna Sittard (4-0 win) and FC Twente (0-1 win). Souffian El Karouani is usually preferred in the left back position.
