Player agent Sports Entertainment Group (SEG) is considering filing a counterclaim against Stefan de Vrij for reputational damage, reveals The Telegraph Monday. The Internazionale centre-back filed a €22 million claim against the agency last week for “unlawful acts”. The defender is demanding a refund of a commission that SEG received on his transfer from Lazio to Internazionale in 2018, plus a retroactive salary increase.

SEG denies the allegations of the the Dutch international and finds the claim unfounded. The real estate agency emphasizes on Monday that during the transfer of De Vrij from Lazio to Inter in 2018, it was indicated several times that action was taken on behalf of the club from Milan. The the Dutch international reportedly also knew how many millions SEG would earn from the domestic transfer from almost four years ago.

The Telegraph has had access to confidential documents and notarial witness statements submitted by SEG after they were summoned by De Vrij last summer. This also shows that the defender is aiming for an amount of 22 million euros. The case will be submitted to the court in Amsterdam in February. SEG explains a total of sixty pages why De Vrij has wrongly allowed lawyers from Antwerp to believe that he was cheated by the Amsterdam company during his transfer to Inter.

According to the Belgian lawyers, SEG would have earned 7.5 million euros by keeping the total contract price of the Inter player as far as possible below 50 million euros. De Vrij wants to get the full pound back through the court, but SEG maintains that 37.5 million euros was the maximum amount, because otherwise he would earn more than the Inter striker. In addition, the maximum of 50 million euros in the agreement with Inter was agreed in order to secure its own commission. The construction has in no way been harmful to De Vrij, it sounds like.

The real estate agency is not aware of any harm and is disappointed that De Vrij has disclosed confidential documents in the agreement and that certain matters have been reported in the press in the ‘wrong context’. The company is now investigating the possibilities of recovering the loss of turnover from De Vrij. The Dutch lawyer of De Vrij lets through his lawyer to The Telegraph do not wish to comment on SEG’s position.
