Juventus further lost touch with the top of the Serie A on Saturday. The team of Massimiliano Allegri let Duván Zapata escape once in the top match against Atalanta and was unable to make up for it: 0-1 loss. The goal against both Leonardo Bonucci and Matthijs de Ligt, who lifted offside, will be charged. Juventus is disappointingly eighth, seven points behind number four Atalanta.
Allegri opted for a central duo consisting of De Ligt and Bonucci, so that Giorgio Chiellini started on the bench. At Atalanta, Marten de Roon formed a couple in midfield with Remo Freuler, so there was no place for Teun Koopmeiners. After a long injury, Hans Hateboer was part of the match selection for the first time this season at la Dea. It was a special match for Merih Demiral: the Turkish defender was loaned out to Atalanta by Juventus last summer.

The match was certainly not full of great opportunities, although Juventus did threaten twice in the opening phase. A placed shot by Paulo Dybala from the edge of the penalty area failed, while the breakthrough Federico Chiesa was stopped at the very last minute by Rafael Toloi. Out of nowhere, Atalanta struck after half an hour by switching quickly. Bonucci had run away from Zapata in the build-up of Juventus, who therefore had free passage. De Ligt could have solved that, but forgot to connect and thus lifted offside. Zapata had left and showed himself deadly with a striking bang through the bottom of the bar: 0-1.
Juventus emphatically went in search of the equalizer after the break, but Atalanta’s defense kept the ranks closed. Adrien Rabiot tried from the edge of the penalty area and saw Juan Musso save. Dybala had a devastating shot from a difficult angle that went over the goal. On the other side, Mario Pasalic was not given a penalty after apparently contact with Juan Cuadrado. De Ligt came close to scoring the equalizer ten minutes before the end by controlling the ball in the bustle of his chest, but his shot choked a meter in front of the goal. Dybala placed a free kick through the wall on the top of the bar in injury time, just after Koopmeiners came in for Atalanta.
