Davy Pröpper says goodbye as a professional. According to the Eindhovens Dagblad the thirty-year-old midfielder hands in his one and a half year contract with PSV. He wants to focus ‘on other things in life’. In the past six months, he came to the conclusion that he is now ready for top football, although the decision is a ‘big surprise’ for PSV.

The news is confirmed by various media. According to Football International Pröpper no longer feels happy in football, although his decision has ‘nothing to do’ with his difficult season and the lack of playing time under coach Roger Schmidt. In his last year at Brighton & Hove Albion, Pröpper already had more and more trouble with football. The corona pandemic and his injury problems did not make the situation any better. Pröpper returned to PSV in the summer of 2021, but has only played nine league matches this season, partly due to injuries, in which he scored once and provided an assist.

Pröpper went through various youth teams at Vitesse and made his debut in 2010 in the main force under Theo Bos. In total, the midfielder played for the Arnhem team for six seasons, after which he made the switch to PSV in 2015. In 2017, Pröpper earned a transfer to Brighton & Hove Albion after having played for the Eindhoven club for two seasons. In four years, he made 103 appearances at the current number nine in the Premier League. Last summer, the midfielder returned to PSV, but under Schmidt he failed to secure a starting spot. In 2015 he made his debut for the Dutch national team during a friendly match against the United States. In total, Pröpper came into action for the the Dutch squad seventeen times. The midfielder has played 408 games in his professional career and recorded 49 goals and 50 assists.
