David Luiz has found a new club after his departure from Arsenal. Fabrizio Romano reports that 34-year-old centre-back is about to return to Brazil. Only the paperwork remains to be completed before Luiz signs a contract binding him to Flamengo until December 2022, as he is already in Brazil with his family.

Romano already reported on Friday afternoon that there was an oral agreement between Luiz and Flamengo about a one-year contract. The 57-time Brazilian international’s contract with Arsenal expired earlier this summer, leaving him free to look for a new club. In recent weeks, the names of Adana Demirspor and Salernitana have been discussed as candidates to bring in Luiz.

The Turkish club was in the market for Luiz, but was unable to reach an agreement. Romano states that the alleged interest of the Italian PhD student Salernitana fake news is. Ultimately, Luiz chose to return to Brazil, which he left behind in 2007 when Benfica snatched him from Esporte Clube Vitória. The defender then played in the shirt of Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Arsenal again.

Luiz played 30 games for Arsenal last season, but in the end it was decided not to renew his expiring contract. Romano writes that Luiz has one big mission with his move to Flamengo: to become champions in Brazil after the league titles in Portugal, England and France. Flamengo is currently fifth in Brazil’s Série A halfway through the season, eight points behind leaders Atlético Mineiro. Luiz’ former teammate Willian also returned to Brazil at Corinthians.
