Real Madrid has won the 183rd edition of el Clásico in competition. At the Camp Nou, Carlo Ancelotti’s team won 1-2 against Barcelona on Sunday, after goals from David Alaba, Lucas Vázquez and Sergio Aguero. Thanks to the win, Real takes over the lead, although Sevilla and Real Sociedad have also taken 20 points. Ronald Koeman’s Barcelona remains in eighth place with fifteen points. Memphis Depay was on the field for 90 minutes; Frenkie de Jong was replaced thirteen minutes before the end and Luuk de Jong came in five minutes before the end.

Koeman made two changes in his line-up compared to Wednesday’s Champions League match against Dynamo Kiev (1-0 win). Luuk de Jong made way in the front for Ansu Fati, while Eric García was preferred over Clément Lenglet in the back; García was still suspended in the Champions League. Carlo Ancelotti sent the same eleven players into the field as Tuesday against Shakhtar Donetsk (0-5 win).

In the opening phase, neither side wanted to take any chances in possession. After twenty minutes, Real wanted a penalty after light contact between Óscar Mingueza and Vinícius Júnior, but referee José María Sánchez Martínez did not cooperate with that request. Moments later, Sergiño Dest missed a golden opportunity to open the score. After preparatory work by Depay, the ball came through Fati at Dest’s feet, who shot high from close range.

It was an expensive miss, especially since Real opened the score not much later. Alaba put Depay off the ball around Real’s penalty area, after which the visitors started the counterattack. Rodrygo cut open the Barcelona defense with a sharp pass to the steamed up Alaba, who fired a hard, diagonal shot into the right corner just inside the penalty area. He scored his first goal for his new club.

After a corner from Depay, Gerard Pique then headed wide from close range, leaving it at 0-1 before half time. After the break, Barcelona failed to get Real into serious trouble for a long time. Marc-André ter Stegen prevented Karim Benzema from taking care of the 0-2. Dest pulled in from the right wing eighteen minutes before the end and shot just over. In the seven-minute stoppage time, Real decided the game after a counterattack. A bet by Marco Asensio was turned by Ter Stegen, but in the rebound Vázquez reacted attentively: 0-2. Substitute Sergio Aguero then scored his first goal for Barcelona after a cross from Dest, with which he determined the final score.
