Dario Dumic will leave FC Twente and continue his career with SV Sandhausen in the 2.Bundesliga, both clubs confirmed on Tuesday afternoon. The defender came to Enschede in the summer of 2020 and has played 29 official games since then. Dumic had an expiring contract and did not go further than four substitutes this season, leaving Twente open for a transfer.

Dumic was only eighteen minutes on the field in the Eredivisie this season. Due to the good development of revelation Mees Hilgers, and because Julio Pleguezuelo has recovered from a cruciate ligament injury, there was little reason for the 29-year-old Bosnian to stay. He was taken over from FC Utrecht in mid-2020, which could not have offered him a permanent base either. Dumic was already rented out by Utrecht to Dynamo Dresden and SV Darmstadt 98 and therefore has the necessary experience in the 2.Bundesliga. He also played for NEC in the past; Dumic played a total of 91 matches in the Eredivisie.

“I’m happy to be here and I’m going to give everything to make sure we reach our goals,” Dumic said on the website of his new club, which is sixteenth in Germany’s second tier. “The 2.Bundesliga suits my playing style well. I’m familiar with Germany and with SV Sandhausen and I’m sure we fit together.” Trainer Alois Schwartz also points to the experience of Dumic and Germany and also expresses his confidence in a good cooperation.

SV Sandhausen already employed a mercenary from the Dutch league this season, but sent Christian Conteh back to Feyenoord on Monday. Conteh’s rental period at Sandhausen was not an unqualified success. The attacker played only 69 minutes, spread over 4 matches in which he was not a starting player once. Conteh eventually recorded one assist in German service. Sandhausen had seen enough and immediately ended Conteh’s rental period on Monday.
