Daniel Sturridge may continue his career in LaLiga. Real Mallorca reports on the club website on Tuesday afternoon that the English striker will train with the first team in the coming period. The 31-year-old attacker has been without a club for 16 months after he left Trabzonspor at the beginning of March last year.

Trabzonspor announced in March last year that an agreement had been reached on the termination of Sturridge’s contract. The attacker joined the number four of the previous Süper Lig season in mid-2019, but came into action less than hoped, partly due to injuries. The 26-time England international came over from Liverpool two years ago on a free transfer, where he had little insight into playing minutes due to the fierce competition.

The thirty-year-old striker hoped to revive his career at the Turkish club, but partly due to various injuries, he did not go further than sixteen games in all competitions for Trabzonspor. At Real Mallorca, which has already been promoted to LaLiga, Sturridge now gets another chance. From Wednesday he will train with the selection of trainer Luis García Plaza in preparation for the new season.

Sturridge was told by FIFA shortly after his departure from Trabzonspor that he would not be allowed to play for any club until June 17, 2020. He received this sentence following a riot surrounding a much-discussed bet in January 2018. At the time, Sturridge is said to have ordered his brother Leon to bet on a transfer to Seville. However, the Englishman never left for Spain and traded Liverpool on loan for West Bromwich Albion a short time later.
