Dani Alves has submitted a request for temporary release, it is reported Marca. The former professional is currently awaiting an appeal in his criminal case and hopes to await this decision in freedom. The Spanish judge fears that Alves will flee and therefore only agrees to temporary release if the former defender complies with a number of measures.

The court has set three requirements. Firstly, Alves must pay a deposit of 50,000 euros. The Brazilian must also surrender his passport to prevent him from leaving Spain.

The last requirement states that Alves must periodically report to court during his temporary release. This way it can be ensured that the former player of FC Barcelona, among others, will actually stay in Spain.

Alves has stated to the judge that he is not going to flee to Brazil. The country in South America does not have an extradition treaty with Spain and so Alves could 'safely' stay there.

Last month it was announced that Alves had been sentenced to four and a half years in prison. The Brazilian was found guilty by the Spanish court of raping a 23-year-old woman in December 2022. Alves must also pay 150,000 euros in compensation to the victim.

The forty-year-old right back stood trial in Barcelona in early February for charges filed against him more than a year ago. Alves is said to have raped and beaten the victim in a nightclub on New Year's Eve.

Not long after the conviction, it became known that the former defense attorney had appealed. Pending that process, Alves is still in custody in Barcelona.
