DESPITE the Covid-19 pandemic that has damaged all sports codes worldwide, the Chilli Boys’ season has turned out as predicted.

Chippa United, like last season, fought hard against relegation and he rode seesaw with his coaches again.

After just five games this season, the club’s chairman, Chippa Mpengesi, has put his coach, Clinton Larsen, in the way.

Control

After that, Chippa just tried to cling to his status as a club in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

After Larsen, Duran Francis was briefly in charge before Zimbabwean Norman Mapeza took over.

Mapeza also could not meet the end date of his contract.

He was replaced by Rhulani Mokwena, who was in charge of only one match due to the pandemic and lockdown.

There was even talk that Dan Malesela, former Chippa coach, could return the fans’ favorite for a sixth time.

However, former Bloemfontein Celtic coach Lehlohonolo Seema took over when the game resumed.

Chippa finished in an awkward 11th place – far from relegation, but compared to last season it was no improvement.

Mpengesi always talks big and says the club is aiming for the top eight.

However, he has performed poorly again and without any steadfastness as far as coaches are concerned, this will almost never happen.

Things are already looking wild for the new season, with Chippa wanting to play home games in East London. So he wants to leave the Bay.

A large number of players such as Diamond Thopola, Meshack Maphangule, Tercious Malepe and Sandile Mthethwa must also now return to Orlando Pirates.

This is because their loan contracts have expired.

Work

There are a large number of players that need to be replaced before the new season starts.

Seema will have to work hard to make changes in the new season.

The only bright spot after Chippa’s current season is Augustine Kwem.

The Nigerian has scored five goals, but it will also make him a target for other teams that will want to buy him.
